KUALA LUMPUR, March 29: Kelantan Menteri Besar Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz and Dr Haron Din have been reappointed as Murshidul Am and Deputy Murshidul Am respectively for the next five years.
The decision was made at the second meeting of PAS's Ulama Consultative Council held at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
The meeting, the first time it was held in the new session comprising of newly appointed members, also appointed three others - Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Razak, Hashim Jasin and Hassan Syukri - as members of the Council.
The Council, the party's most influential body consisting of Muslim scholars, also includes PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang, his deputy Nasharudin Mat Isa, vice president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman, to represent the Central Committee.
The party's Ulama wing is represented by Harun Taib, Ahmad Yaakub, Dr Mahfodz Mohamad and Nik Mohd Zawawi Salleh.
PAS youth is represented by its chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi and Zaharudin Mohamad, while the Muslimat wing has submitted a list of names from among which two will be selected for the Council.
Recent amendments to the PAS constitution have increased the number of members in the Council from 12 to 17, including for the first time members from the Youth and Muslimat wings which had not been represented in the past.
The Murshidul Am acts as a general guide and spiritual advisor in the party to ensure the party sticks to its policies and ideology.
