Chavez: Accusations against Iran baseless

PressTV

CARACAS, May 13: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says there is no evidence to prove accusations that Iran is pursuing a military nuclear program.
Chavez urged the international community to ease pressure on Iran, which he said was “not the biggest threat in the world.”

“They accuse Iran of making the atomic bomb. Why don't those who make the accusations set an example? …Iran isn't the biggest threat in the world," AFP quoted Chavez as saying on Wednesday.

“There's no evidence that contradicts what the Iranian government is saying to the world: that they're not making any bomb," he added.

Chavez also lauded Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his attempts to find a peaceful solution to the dispute over Iran's nuclear program, including his scheduled visit to Tehran next week.
Iran, which is a member of the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), has repeatedly declared that its nuclear program is peaceful.

The IAEA has never found a shred of evidence indicating that Iran is pursuing a military nuclear program.
