KOTA BARU: Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is fully supportive of having a non-Malay to fill his post as long as the person is a Muslim.
“Kelantan laws … were made before PAS came to power. They can be amended,” he told reporters after officiating the ‘Ijtimak Ulama Muda Negeri Kelantan’ meeting in Kota Bharu on Monday.
Nik Aziz said that as far as he and PAS were concerned race did not matter, but religion did.
“We will support any non-Malay Muslim who practises the teachings of Islam,” he said. “This will create respectability for Islam, making the religion more appealing to people.”
He said anyone of good character who practised Islam correctly is qualified to lead from the Islamic point of view.
Refering to the state constitution, he said there was no need to amend its as it was in line with Islamic requirements.
