KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — MIC deputy youth chief V.Mugilan has asked party president Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu to quit immediately, in order to salvage the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party.
“If possible I want him to resign today. However if he needs time, then perhaps until the end of this year, but no longer than that,” said Mugilan at a press conference today.
Mugilan has denied that this was a personal vendetta. The Hulu Selangor MIC youth chief was a BN favourite to contest the Hulu Selangor by-election last month, but objections from Samy Vellu and his own party denied him the chance. Eventual party choice, P. Kamalanathan, went on to win the by-election.
“No, no... I just want to save the party,”he said.
Mugilan said that he was only using Samy Vellu’s modus operandi, when the latter ousted Tun VT Sambanthan more than four decades ago.
